Morita Therapy
Morita therapy is a Japanese indigenous psychotherapy developed by the late Dr. Shoma Morita (1874-1938) around 1919. With its rich history, Morita therapy invites people to approach so-called "negative" feelings as natural and inevitable human responses to circumstances. It gently encourages people to refrain from "judging" what is natural and inevitable (such as feeling sad or anxious) as "good or bad", just as we would not judge the angle of a mountaintop, the curvature of a 500-year-old bonsai tree, or the speed of river flow in the same way.

The Authentic Morita Therapy
Morita and his successors left behind, the Standard Edition of the Collected Works of Shoma Morita. Unfortunately, the Works are only available in the native language of Japanese. Diverse understandings/interpretations/adaptations/stylizations of Morita's original/authentic works exist globally today. This seminar invites to learn Morita therapy according to Shoma Morita. We return together to its origin, the writings of the very Shoma Morita, with a goal to grasp and firmly hold what ‘authentic Morita therapy’ is (and is NOT).

Improving Access to Morita Therapy
With its original writings available only in Japanese and the majority of certified Morita psychotherapists (registered with the Japanese Society for Morita Therapy) residing in Japan, Morita therapy remains one of the least accessible psychotherapies worldwide. This seminar is an effort to improve global access to Morita therapy.
Competency-Based Curriculum

It should be noted that, at present, the only official certification program offered by the Japanese Society for Morita Therapy (JSMT) is available exclusively in Japanese. While this seminar does not directly lead to certification through JSMT, it provides a structured, competency-based curriculum that integrates comprehensive knowledge of Morita therapy (in both Japanese and English), including the Collected Works. The curriculum clearly defines and articulates the clinical competencies and elements required to practice Morita therapy, independent of JSMT’s official certification.
